The Expo is coming! The Expo is coming! OK, enough with the re-worked references to Paul Revere's alarm cry (apparently he never actually made that famous Midnight Ride) . But we here at Valley Girls Foodstuffs are really, truly excited about this upcoming pure foods fair at the Santa Rosa Fairgrounds on September 11 - 13, 2013. We are busily getting all of our ducks in a row and can't wait to get out there and meet all the Farmers and Chefs who will be there.
Carlo Petrini of the Slow Food movement will be one of the keynote speakers. VGF staff remembers being in Italy in 1993 and the huge brouhaha that was STILL percolating in Rome after the opening of the first MacDonalds in the historic downtown near the Spanish Steps in 1986. This monumental (in Italian terms) incident sparked Petrini's founding of Slow Food 3 years after MacDonalds entered the Italian food scene. In spite of what one may or may not think of MacDonalds menu offerings, it must be admitted that the Italians never do anything without their requisite panache, and the "First Italian MacDonalds" is housed in a location replete with travertine walls, marble statues, trickling fountains, cobblestone floors and mosaics backdropping live bromeliads. Ma che pazzo!
As we prepare for the Expo, we are thinking of ways to encourage Kermit the Frog characteristics, namely being GREEN! As part of our participation at the Expo, we have an Heirloom Food Expo Special! We will give patrons of our booth $0.50 per glass Mason jar toward the purchase of our foodstuffs. This special has no limit, so potentially you could get some free delectables simply for recycling your glass jars with us. Click here for a list of sizes & shapes that we will accept at the Expo.
